How important is 1/10th of a second in a baseball game?
- It can be the difference between beating out a single and making an out.
- It can be the difference between throwing out a runner stealing 2nd and having a guy in scoring position.
- It can be the difference between recognizing that you got a good pitch to hit, and having it be a called 3rd strike before you can get the bat around.
Ballplayers that have "The Edge" don't need to worry about that 1/10th of a second, because they are already 2/10th of a second ahead. What do they have that everyone else wants?
SPEED
- Getting from "Point A" to "Point B" (i.e. 60 ft from 1st to 2nd) faster than the play can be made.
- Running under a fly ball and having the time to wait for an easy catch.
QUICKNESS
- The ability to move 3 or 4 feet to adjust to a grounder's path so you can make an easy "sure" play instead of a diving "Hail Mary"
- Popping up and releasing the throw from a crouch to drop a stealing runner before most other catchers are able to get the ball out of their gloves.
- Diving back to the bag safely on a pickoff every time.
AGILITY & BALANCE
- Directional sliding, Split second adjustments in the batters box, correcting for ball flight in the field, glove control, throwing with power and accuracy from either foot - even while on the move.
POWER
- The leg, hip, and core strength needed to turn on a pitched baseball and drive it with authority.
- The core and arm strength that forms "the gun" from center field that throws the ball on a rope to get runners out.
How can you get "The Edge"?
We recommend for every baseball player to train at "The Edge Gym" at our sister training facility: Puckmasters Hockey Training Center. Our unique training environment focuses on developing a player's full potential in the areas of speed, power, quickness, and agility/balance. Every student works out with a personal trainer, in a program that has been designed specifically for young athletes (ages 8-18) to improve their game day performance.
Heavy emphasis is placed on balance, power, and overall strength. We do not use weights, but rather a specific combination of plyometrics, balance exercises, and body-weight strength training that is guaranteed to improve overall conditioning and strength.
Cost is $25.00 per month for individuals (come as often as you'd like). Coaches and Teams are invited to call for more information on pricing and customized training plans.
